Airbus Urban Air Mobility paused development of the CityAirbus NextGen in early 2025, citing concerns about the maturity of battery technology. The CityAirbus NextGen is a fully electric four-seat eVTOL with eight electrically powered propellers targeting a range of 80 km at 120 km/h cruise speed. Airbus has not announced a timeline for resuming the program. The pause reflects a broader industry recalibration around battery energy density requirements for certifiable commercial eVTOL aircraft.
