Frequently Asked Questions
When will eVTOL air taxi flights launch?
Commercial eVTOL flights are launching now. Dubai is leading with Joby Aviation's commercial service beginning this quarter (Q2 2026), with vertiports already operational. Abu Dhabi follows in Q3 2026 with Archer Aviation. Join the waitlist to be notified when flights begin in your city.
How much will an eVTOL air taxi flight cost?
Initial eVTOL air taxi rides are expected to cost $3-8 per mile, similar to premium rideshare services. A typical 30-mile trip might cost $100-200. Prices are expected to decrease as the industry scales. Waitlist members receive founding member pricing.
What is the eVTOL.Travel waitlist?
The eVTOL.Travel waitlist is a free signup to reserve your priority spot for booking air taxi flights. Waitlist members get early access to flights, exclusive pricing, and route launch notifications before the general public.
How do eVTOL air taxis work?
eVTOL (electric vertical takeoff and landing) aircraft are battery-powered flying vehicles that take off and land vertically like helicopters but fly more quietly and efficiently. Passengers board at vertiports, fly above traffic at speeds up to 200 mph, and arrive at their destination in a fraction of the time.
Is the waitlist free to join?
Yes, joining the eVTOL.Travel waitlist is completely free. There is no obligation to book a flight. You simply provide your email and preferred route, and we'll notify you when service launches in your area.
Which cities will have eVTOL air taxi service first?
Dubai is launching commercial eVTOL air taxi service now (Q2 2026) with Joby Aviation. Abu Dhabi follows in Q3 2026 with Archer Aviation, and Los Angeles is expected late 2026. New York and Miami are targeting 2027. Tokyo, Osaka, London, Singapore, and Seoul are expected by 2028.
Are eVTOL air taxis safe?
Yes. eVTOL aircraft are designed with multiple layers of redundancy, including backup motors, batteries, and flight control systems. They undergo the same rigorous FAA (or equivalent) certification process as commercial airplanes. Many designs feature distributed electric propulsion, meaning the aircraft can continue flying safely even if several motors fail.
What certifications do eVTOL aircraft need?
eVTOL aircraft must receive a Type Certificate from aviation regulators such as the FAA (United States), EASA (Europe), or CAAS (Singapore). This process evaluates the aircraft's design, manufacturing, safety systems, and operational procedures. Companies like Joby, Archer, and Lilium are in advanced stages of certification.
How are eVTOL aircraft better for the environment?
eVTOLs produce zero direct emissions since they run on electric batteries. They are significantly quieter than helicopters—typically producing noise levels comparable to a dishwasher. Per passenger-mile, eVTOLs are projected to have a lower carbon footprint than single-occupancy car trips, especially in congested urban corridors.
What is a vertiport and where will they be located?
A vertiport is a dedicated takeoff and landing facility for eVTOL aircraft, similar to a helipad but designed for electric aircraft. Vertiports will be located on rooftops, near transit hubs, airports, and in city centers. They include passenger lounges, charging infrastructure, and safety systems.
How long does a typical eVTOL flight take?
Most urban eVTOL flights will take between 5 and 25 minutes, covering distances that might take 1-2 hours by car during peak traffic. For example, a trip from Manhattan to JFK Airport could take around 7 minutes by eVTOL versus 60+ minutes by car.
Do I need a pilot license to ride in an eVTOL?
No. eVTOL air taxis are operated by trained, certified pilots—passengers simply book a seat and enjoy the ride. Some future models are being designed for fully autonomous flight, but initial commercial operations will all have professional pilots on board.
